NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing is proud to announce that Profs. Donna E. McCabe, DNP, GNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, and Mimi Bhatt, PhD, MPH, CNM, and three alumni have been named Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing.

Only two percent of nurses worldwide are recognized as AAN fellows, making it one of the highest honors in the nursing profession. Fellows are globally recognized individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant, sustained contributions to nursing and health care. Fellows are elected by their peers from among the nation's most accomplished nursing clinicians, educators, researchers, and policymakers.

"We are incredibly proud of Profs. McCabe and Bhatt, and our alumni who are being honored this year," said Dean Angela F. Amar. "This recognition reflects the breadth and depth of impact our faculty have on patients, communities, and the nursing profession as a whole."

In addition, NYU Langone Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services Debra Albert, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, and Kimberley Ennis, DNP, APRN-BC, NEA-BC, vice president of nursing and patient care service, were also named AAN Fellows this year.

All new fellows will be honored along with the other Class of 2026 Fellows at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, taking place on October 8 – October 10, 2026, in Washington, DC.

Donna E. McCabe, DNP, GNP-BC, PMHNP-BC

Prof. McCabe, MA ‘02, has devoted nearly three decades to advancing the care of older adults through integrated behavioral health, interprofessional education, and health systems innovation.  She has led and collaborated on multiple funded projects supported by the NIH, HRSA, and the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, with a focus on dementia care, interprofessional teaching strategies, and the transition of new nurses into complex care environments.

P. Mimi (Paulomi) Bhatt, PhD, MPH, CNM

Prof. Bhatt is a theorist, educator, researcher, and certified nurse-midwife and double Meyers alumna whose work explores the potential of integrated models of midwifery care in creating health equity in historically disenfranchised communities. Her scholarship centers on respectful maternity care, racial equity in birth outcomes, and community-based participatory research. Prof. Bhatt was the first certified nurse-midwife to sit on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives.

McCabe and Bhatt are also Meyers alumni. In addition to them, three other NYU alumni are part of this year’s AAN Fellow class:
