Christine T. Kovner, PhD, RN, FAAN, the Mathy Mezey Professor of Geriatric Nursing at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, has been named editor-in-chief for Policy, Politics, & Nursing Practice, a leading journal focused on the intersection of nursing and health policy.

“I look forward to working with our editorial board and authors to advance research and analysis of critical health policy topics and foster discussion on issues facing the nursing profession,” said Kovner.

Kovner is a highly-respected and widely published nurse educator and researcher who studies quality improvement, RN working conditions, and nursing care costs. She was the principal investigator of a study funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that examined the career trajectories of newly licensed registered nurses over the first ten years of their careers, which led to key findings about the characteristics of new nurses, the challenges they face, and what factors influence their careers.

Kovner has been involved with health policy on the state and national level. She was a senior scholar at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and served as a member of the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council and the Steering Committee for New York’s Nursing Workforce Center.

Published by SAGE, Policy, Politics, & Nursing Practice, is a quarterly, peer-reviewed journal that explores the multiple relationships between nursing and health policy. It serves as a major source of data-based study, policy analysis, and discussion on timely, relevant policy issues for nurses in a broad variety of roles and settings, and for others who are interested in nursing-related policy issues.

Kovner previously served as the senior associate editor for Policy, Politics, & Nursing Practice. Sally S. Cohen, PhD, RN, FAAN, clinical professor at NYU Meyers, served at the editor-in-chief of the journal from 2014 to 2019.
