Prof. Emerson Ea receives AACN funding to encourage participation in NIH's All of Us Research Program

NYU Meyers was one of six schools of nursing selected by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to receive funding through its mini-grants program in support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) All of Us Research Program. The All of Us Research Program aims help increase participation of underrepresented communities in biomedical research.

Emerson Ea, PhD, DNP, assistant dean of clinical & adjunct affairs and clinical associate professor at NYU Meyers, will use the funding to support Project Asian American Presence - New York (Project AsAP-NY).

Asian Americans constitute 5.6 percent of the U.S. population and belong to one of fastest growing ethnic/racial groups in the country. Despite this, Asian Americans continue to be underrepresented in biomedical research. To address this invisibility and underrepresentation in research, Project AsAP-NY aims to engage established Asian American community-based and professional organizations to disseminate information about the All of Us Research Program using innovative and culturally-relevant in-person and digital communication and dissemination strategies.

Launched by the NIH on May 6, 2018, the All of Us Research Program seeks to extend precision medicine to all diseases by building a national research cohort of one million or more participants reflecting the diversity of the United States. AACN joined with NIH to advance this initiative by administering a mini-grants program to facilitate the engagement of the nursing education community with the All of Us Research Program, and in particular, its focus on including communities that have been historically underrepresented in biomedical research.
