NYU Meyers Now Offering Part-Time PhD Option
January 30, 2026
NYU Meyers is reintroducing its part-time PhD option, affirming the College’s commitment to expanding access to doctoral education and strengthening the pipeline of nurse scientists prepared to address complex health challenges. The re-introduction aligns with NYU Meyers’ broader mission to advance nursing science, education, and practice in service of global health.
Designed for nurses seeking advanced research training, the part-time option offers the same academic rigor and close faculty mentorship as the full-time option. Students will engage in intensive coursework, research and teaching experiences, and student activities while progressing through the program on a part-time schedule.
“We are excited to renew our part-time PhD option, which expands access to doctoral education and supports talented nurses in pursuing careers as nurse scientists while balancing professional and personal commitments,” said Prof. Dena Schulman-Green, PhD program director.
“The program prepares independent nurse scientists for research-intensive roles across academic, healthcare, policy, and other settings,” Schulman-Green said. “Areas of scholarly focus include aging and serious illness; health services research; maternal, reproductive, and child health; and population precision health and chronic conditions."
Students will benefit from NYU’s and NYU Meyers’ robust research infrastructure, cross-school collaboration opportunities, and access to one of the nation’s most dynamic academic health ecosystems. The curriculum emphasizes strong foundational training in philosophy and research methods, professional development, and experiential learning, all in service of supporting students’ development of their program of research.
Applications for the part-time option are now open, with the first cohort expected to begin in Fall 2026. More information about admissions requirements and PhD program options can be found on our website.
