Prof. Bei Wu wins national public service award
March 20, 2024
NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Vice Dean for Research and Dean’s Professor in Global Health Bei Wu was honored recently with the 2024 Jack Hein Public Service Award by the American Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR).
The Jack Hein award recognizes AADOCR members “who have provided exemplary service in the area of public affairs by consistently promoting the interests and activities of oral health research to a wide constituency.”
Prof. Wu, PhD, FGSA, FAAN (Hon.), is an international leader in gerontology whose research has focused on the nexus of nursing and dentistry, covering a wide range of topics related to aging and global health, including oral health, long-term care, dementia and caregiving.
She is co-director of the Rutgers-NYU Center for Asian Health Promotion and Equity, which is funded by National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. There, she is leading an intervention study that aims to enhance health outcomes for Chinese and Korean dementia caregivers. Professor Wu also serves as a principal investigator for the National Institute on Aging--funded Asian Resource Center for Minority Aging (RCMAR) and the Resource Center for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research in Asian and Pacific Americans (RCASIA).
“I have been conducting geriatric oral health research for two decades,” said Professor Wu. “Receiving the Jack Hein Public Service Award was a great honor for me because it underscores the interdisciplinary collaboration between gerontological and oral health research. I will continue to advance oral health research across diverse communities.”
Karen Tracy, vice president for strategic alliances and integrated communications at the Gerontological Society of America, also received a Jack Hein Public Service award.
“Bei Wu’s research is proof of the power of research and education to change lives,” said NYU Meyers Dean Angela Amar. “Her work embodies the values of collaboration, inclusion and service that are at the core of what we do as nurses and what we do at Meyers.”
