NY passes historic BS in 10 law

STATEMENT FROM THE DEAN

We are pleased that Governor Cuomo signed Senate Bill 6768 yesterday, which requires RN's to attain a baccalaureate degree in nursing within ten years of initial licensure.  

NYU has been a strong supporter of “BS in 10” legislation. Research shows that patients benefit from baccalaureate-prepared nurses leading to better outcomes. Earning bachelor's degrees also creates opportunities for career mobility and leadership among all nurses. 

New York is the first state in the nation to pass a bill requiring a BS/BSN as a licensure requirement, long held as the recommended degree by the nursing community. At NYU Meyers, we are proud to live and work in a state leading the way in healthcare and will continue to prepare nurses to provide the best possible care to their patients using evidence-based approaches.

I was so proud to see our students, faculty, and alumni engaged and on the front-lines of this worthy and important cause.  And now the hard work starts to ensure that this law is successful!
