New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing (NYU Meyers) is excited to announce that Maja Djukic, PhD, RN is the recipient of an educational change award for 2017 from the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation.  Djukic is the first ever Macy Faculty Scholars Program Award recipient from NYU Meyers.

Djukic, an assistant professor, studies workforce determinants of health care quality and teaches quality improvement and evidence-based practice to doctoral students.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Maja Djukic to our newest class of Macy Faculty Scholars,” said Dr. George Thibault, President of the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation. “Dr. Djukic’s project using new virtual patient technologies will help prepare nursing students for enhanced roles in primary care and build nurse leaders.”

The Macy Faculty Scholars Program—the first of its kind—launched in December 2010. The program aims to accelerate needed reforms in health professions education to accommodate the dramatic changes occurring in medical practice and healthcare delivery. Each Macy Faculty Scholar engages in activities to enhance their career as an educator, as well as pursuing a mentored educational innovation project at their home institution.  Djukic’s selection as one of five 2017 Faculty Scholars will be announced on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.

“We are thrilled; this is fabulous news,” remarked Eileen M. Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean and Erline Perkins McGriff Professor at NYU Meyers.  “The recognition of Dr. Djukic’s work by the Macy Foundation is a testament to her preparation, initiative, dedication, and productivity over the past few years.  The validation and support for her teaching and research by the Macy Foundation provides a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Djukic and NYU Meyers.”

Under the program, Djukic will receive salary support for two years with fifty percent effort dedicated toward pursuing education reform projects at NYU Meyers.  Additionally, the Foundation will support educational change at NYU Meyers and will work with Djukic to develop a national network for the Scholars who will receive career advice from a National Advisory Committee and participate in an Annual Meeting for the program.
