Aliviado Dementia Care Research Projects

Aliviado Caregiving Research Projects:

Our Aliviado DSD Caregiving Mastery program is designed to give family caregivers the tools, knowledge, and confidence to recognize, prevent, and manage delirium in their loved ones with dementia. Delirium Superimposed on Dementia (DSD) is common in people with dementia and can lead to faster declines in health and function. It also causes stress for both the person with dementia and their caregivers.

NYU and the University of Pittsburgh are currently testing a 6-week, smartphone app-based program that teaches caregivers how to identify, prevent, and manage delirium symptoms. This program aims to reduce the impact of delirium, particularly following hospitalization.

Who is Eligible:

  1. Adults (18+) who are caring for an older adult with dementia.
  2. The care recipient must live in a private home, apartment, or independent living unit.

What to Expect:

  • Watch educational videos on delirium and dementia care.
  • Apply caregiving strategies through a personalized app-based care plan.
  • Answer survey questions to track progress and feedback.
  • Receive a total of $100 in gift cards for participation.
