Annual Meeting Focused on Caring for Older Adults to Address Evidence-Based Care, LGBTQ Health and Aging, April 10-13, 2018

Hundreds of healthcare professionals from around the world with a common mission of caring for older adults will meet in Atlanta from April 10-13 for the 2018 NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) Conference.

The NICHE Conference will highlight evidence-based innovations and research related to geriatric care. Topics include wellness, mental health, diversity and culture, technology, and accessibility as they relate to the care of older adults.

This year’s conference also features a focus on LGBTQ health and aging. Speakers will cover topics including addressing social isolation and the role of nurses in promoting health and wellness among LGBTQ older adults.

“Our annual conference is a terrific opportunity to see how nurse leaders are innovating to solve a really pressing issue, “said Mattia Gilmartin, PhD, RN, executive director of NICHE. “I’m proud to support the work they’re doing each day to ensure that older people receive care that promotes function, autonomy, and dignity.”

Other sessions will focus on a range of topics including emergency preparedness in the wake of recent hurricanes, the use of pet robots to reduce social isolation, and representation of older adults in clinical research.

Keynote speakers for the 2018 conference include:

  • Robert E. Burke, MD, MS, FHM, of the Denver VA Medical Center and University of Colorado
  • Donna Fick, PhD, GCNS-BC, FGSA, FAAN, the Elouise Ross Eberly Professor of Nursing at Penn State College of Nursing
  • Eileen Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN, FAAN, Erline Perkins McGriff Professor of Nursing and dean of NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing

The NICHE Conference is part of the year-round education that NICHE offers to help healthcare organizations improve how they care for older adults, providing resources for nursing and interdisciplinary teams to achieve their healthcare facilities’ goals.
