A Historic Partnership Between NYU Rory Meyers and Howard University
PEACE, which stands for Partnering to Elevate and Advance a Culture of Equity, is an initiative created by NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and Howard University College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences to transform health equity education and dismantle systemic barriers in health care. This marks the latest, and most wide-reaching, initiative in the groundbreaking partnership between the two institutions, which launched in 2021 and also includes the annual Bernardine Mays Lacey Health Equity Symposium.
- The joint initiative will create a hub of thought leadership– from Washington, DC to New York City– that will advance health equity and shape the future of nursing education and practice.
- Through faculty collaboration, student exchange programs, and immersive clinical placements in both cities, PEACE will build a network of scholars and practitioners dedicated to eliminating health disparities, particularly for marginalized communities and with a focus on midwifery and birth equity.
- This partnership brings together the distinct strengths and resources of both universities, creating a transformative collaboration that will reflect a shared commitment to address inequities in health care by increasing and improving opportunities in education, research, and delivery.
OUR VISION
PEACE envisions an academic alliance designed to empower both students and faculty to lead in the pursuit of health equity. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and producing impactful scholarship, the partnership strives to serve as a national model for education and leadership that centers and celebrates community building, innovation and equity. PEACE prepares the next generation of nurse leaders, clinicians, and scholars to address inequities across health care systems and institutions of higher education with a boldness rooted in scholarship, inclusion and excellence.
OUR GOALS
PEACE was established to:
- Increase the pipeline of midwives and birth equity practitioners.
- Build a cadre of nursing leaders advancing health equity in research, education, policy, and practice.
- Strengthen faculty development in equity-based pedagogy and scholarship.
