Soogyung (Suji) Shin. MSN. BSN, is a full-time PhD student in the Florence S. Downs PhD Program. She earned her BSN from Ewha Womans University, South Korea, and began her career as a cardiology nurse at Samsung Medical Center. Later, she returned to Ewha and completed her MSN with a minor in AI Convergence. From her clinical experience, she has witnessed the vulnerability of older adults, as well as the potential for data-driven approaches to support this population.
Her research interest lies in applying artificial intelligence and data-driven methods to support community-dwelling older adults and their caregivers. Believing that health is largely managed at home with their caregivers, her goal is to help older adults return home and navigate their care challenges independently.
During her master’s studies, Soogyung contributed to several national research projects. This includes work on the association between age-related hearing loss and cognitive decline, and on mealtime support for older adults in long-term care facilities. Within these projects, she engaged in a wide range of studies, including mixed-methods, qualitative, and secondary analyses, which strengthened her research experience.
Beyond academia, Soogyung enjoys running, boxing, and making pour-overs for others.
