Jia Yin Ruan, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Associate at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her research focuses on aging and dementia caregiving, qualitative methodology and mix-method research in health research, Asian health and well-being, innovative interventions for sleep heath, and integrative health (e.g., traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine-based lifestyle intervention).
Drawing on her diverse training in aging and caregiving, behavioral medicine, and integrative medicine, she conducts qualitative research to explore underexplored phenomena and employs mixed-methods research to advance knowledge and promote health and well-being among Asian populations. She serves as an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science.
Currently, she is involved in a psychosocial intervention study (the NYU Caregiver Intervention plus Enhanced Support) aimed at improving health outcomes for Chinese and Korean American Alzheimer's disease and related dementia caregivers. She is also engaged in a project on care partner assisted intervention to improve oral health of individuals with mild dementia as well as a project elucidating the relationship between oral health and dementia subtypes.
Ruan earned her PhD in Nursing from Hong Kong Polytechnic University prior to joining NYU Meyers. She also holds a Master of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. In addition, she has professional experience as a registered nurse at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine.
Ruan has received the Tian Jiang Cup, Li Shi Zhen, Youth Outstanding Thesis Award (her doctoral dissertation) on the 20th International Postgraduate Symposium on Chinese Medicine.
