The Upsilon Chapter of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (Sigma), accepts applications for membership twice per year. Undergraduate student applications are accepted in the fall, while applications for graduate students and nurse leaders are accepted in the spring. Our annual induction for all new inductees occurs in the spring.
Sigma is committed to fostering excellence, scholarship, and leadership in nursing to improve healthcare worldwide. Sigma promotes the use of nursing research in healthcare delivery and makes its resources available to all people and institutions interested in the latest knowledge in nursing care.
Criteria for membership, established by Upsilon Chapter and Sigma, are as follows:

GENERAL INDUCTION INFORMATION
For all undergraduate and graduate student induction applicants that meet the eligibility criteria listed above, you will need to follow the application instructions:
- Complete the Online Membership Intent Form (all required forms as described under #2 and #3 below must be ready for upload prior to completing the application) or visit the Sigma Nursing Upsilon Chapter website.
- Obtain and upload two (2) Endorsement Forms (provided below), one of which must be completed by an NYU Meyers faculty member and at least one of which must hold active membership in Sigma. Save the files as "NAME - Endorsement 1" and "NAME - Endorsement 2".
- Upload your most recent unofficial transcript from Albert. Save the file as "NAME - Transcript".
Nurse Leader candidates can easily apply for membership online at Why Join Sigma and choose I am a nurse leader for more information.
The Nurse Leader candidates' application forms will be sent directly to the current Sigma Upsilon president.
If accepted, please note that you will not be considered a member until you accept online through Sigma and pay the initial annual fee, which is $108.00.
Our annual induction ceremony takes place in April every year with an invitation sent to all new members (Fall and Spring) by Sigma and by the Communications Committee of Sigma Upsilon. Guests can be invited for a fee, and location can vary yearly (in-campus or outside-campus venue).

FALL INDUCTION CYCLE
The fall induction cycle is for undergraduate students who are in their third or fourth sequence of the program. Nurse leaders applications are also accepted. Applications will be available on the Sigma Upsilon website starting early October and closes after thirty days. Applicants will receive notification of acceptance by end of November, following an invitation to attend New Member Orientation which occurs in early December.
SPRING INDUCTION CYCLE
The spring induction cycle is for graduate students who have finished at least one-quarter of their program and for nurse leader applicants. We will also take applications for undergraduate students that graduated in January or who are entering their fourth sequence that meet eligibility requirements after the fall semester. Applications will be available on the Sigma Upsilon website starting end of January and closes after thirty days. Applicants will receive notification of acceptance by March. Induction takes place in April with invitations of details, fees, locations sent via email to new inductees one month prior to the event.
