Developing a Comprehensive Sex Education Program for HIV Prevention among Adolescents and Young Women in Saudi Arabia: A Qualitative Study
Samar Ashmawi
This study aims to develop a culturally tailored sex education intervention for HIV prevention among adolescent girls and young women in Saudi Arabia. These young women are particularly vulnerable due to limited access to comprehensive sex education, the social stigma surrounding HIV and sexual health discussions, and gender-based discrimination. Employing qualitative
methods and a community-engaged research (CEnR) approach, this project will ensure the intervention's cultural relevance and alignment with community values and needs. The expected outcome is a preventive strategy, co-created with community members (adolescents, young women, educators, and healthcare providers), that is designed to effectively reduce HIV rates within the unique socio-cultural context of Saudi Arabia.
