Transfer

Transfer students from two-year or four-year or from within NYU may apply for admission if they have earned any college credits at the time of matriculation. No prerequisites are required for admission and transfer students can receive credit for courses taken at previous schools.

Admission criteria

  • Completion of any college credits at the time of matriculation.
  • Demonstrated overall strong academic performance.
  • Current NYU students looking to internally transfer, need to refer to NYU's website for more information.


Prerequisite courses

  • No prerequisites are required for admission as a transfer student from a 2-year or 4-year accredited institution
  • A student can be admitted with as many as 64 college credits (our maximum).
  • Upon admission, students must complete all liberal arts and science prerequisites before they are able to begin the nursing coursework. 
  • Although not required, some students choose to take these courses at a 2- or 4-year institution before applying to the program
  • Students are encouraged to review the list of liberal arts and science courses required to begin the nursing coursework.  They could be taken at NYU upon admission or at any regionally accredited school before admission to the program, as long as they meet all eligibility requirements for transfer credit.


Transfer credit

  • Transfer students may transfer a maximum of 64 liberal arts and natural science credits.
  • Students are encouraged to review the list of liberal arts and science courses that may transfer. The class must match the specific description of our required course in order to be accepted as transfer credit.
  • All courses must have been taken less than ten years prior to the date of matriculation.
  • Nursing courses are not eligible for transfer credit unless you already have a Registered Nurse License at the time of application.
  • All courses must have a letter grade of C or above and at least 3 semester credit hours.
  • Once admitted, transcripts are evaluated to determine how many, if any, transfer credits will be granted, and a tentative Transfer Credit Evaluation will be provided.
  • Any additional course(s) that was/were not included in your admissions application must be
    approved by the NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Asst. Director for Undergraduate
    Student Affairs and Admissions. Without prior approval, acceptance of any additional coursework for transfer credit is at the sole discretion of NYU Meyers administration.
  • We do not evaluate transcripts before admission into the program.

NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing undergraduate students have until the NYU add/drop deadline of their first semester enrolled at NYU Meyers to submit any AP Scores, high school courses taken for college credit or transcripts from any regionally accredited 2 or 4-year institution to receive transfer credit. After this deadline, students will no longer be eligible to submit AP Scores or any transcripts for transfer credit. Please note that the NYU Meyers Office of Student Affairs and Admissions has the final say on which scores or courses will be granted for transfer credit.

 

Agreements with other four-year institutions

Skidmore College

NYU Meyers has established an articulation agreement with Skidmore College. Skidmore College students have the opportunity to complete the requirements of the baccalaureate program at Skidmore College in four years and enroll in the Accelerated 15-month BS program at NYU Meyers following graduation. Yeshiva University - Stern College for Women 

NYU Meyers has an articulation agreement with Yeshiva University, which enables Stern College for Women students to jointly complete the requirements of the baccalaureate program at Stern College for Women and the Accelerated 15-month BS program at NYU Meyers or the College’s two-year/non-accelerated baccalaureate nursing program. Policies

Technical standards requirements

Applicants must meet the Technical Standards for Core Professional Nursing Competency Performance in order to be eligible for admission to, progress in, and graduate from the nursing program.

Criminal background check policy

All nursing students will be required to complete a series of clinical learning experiences in order to successfully meet the learning outcomes for a given program of study. Prior to participating in clinical learning experiences at any off-campus healthcare facility, students are required to complete a criminal background check and a drug test. Each clinical facility has policies regarding possible convictions and potential drug use that may bar students from being accepted at the facility for clinical placement. If a student is not accepted to an assigned placement because of the findings of a background check or drug screen, NYU Meyers does not guarantee an alternate clinical placement. College policy dictates that students who are unable to complete clinical requirements for any reason will be subject to dismissal from the program.

The process of obtaining a nursing license in New York and many other states may involve consideration of an applicant’s criminal history or other conduct (see the NYS license application). Criminal convictions and/or a record of certain other conduct may prevent a nursing student/graduate from being licensed and may preclude the nursing graduate from obtaining gainful employment as a nurse. Applicants to NYU Meyers are encouraged to determine, prior to matriculation, the licensure requirements in the state(s) in which they intend to practice.

Application requirements

Application fee

An $80 non-refundable fee must be paid when submitting your admission application.  Fee waivers are available upon approval.  If you would like to apply for a fee waiver, please fill out the section “request for fee waiver” in the Personal Information section of the Common Application.

Essays

You are required to respond to the following two essay questions located under the Program Materials "Questions" section in the Common Application:

  1. We would like to know more about your interest in NYU. We are particularly interested in knowing what motivated you to apply to NYU and more specifically, why you have applied or expressed interest in a particular campus, school, college, program, and/or area of study. You may be focused or undecided, or simply open to the options within NYU's global network; regardless, we want to understand - Why NYU? 
  2. Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.

Recommendation letters

You are required to submit one recommendation letter from an academic professor but can submit a maximum of two. If you have been out of school for over a year, you are permitted to submit one professional letter of recommendation instead of an academic one. Your letter of recommendation should comment on your maturity, intellectual potential, and motivation to pursue a career in nursing.

To submit a recommendation letter, follow the instructions once you are in the Common Application. The application will provide you with an electronic link to send to your recommenders. They will then submit their recommendation letter through that link.

Transcripts

  • You must submit an official high school transcript noting the graduation date.  If you have a GED (General Educational Diploma) instead, please submit your certificate along with your scores.
  • You must also submit official college transcript(s) in a sealed envelope from each college or university that you attended before the application deadline.  Applications with missing transcripts will not be reviewed.

Transcripts may also be emailed to admissions.ops@nyu.edu but should still bear an official stamp, must come from a school official, and must be sent from an official school email address.

Standardized test scores

  • Standardized testing is optional for the upcoming application term.
  • Standardized test scores, such as the SAT and ACT, are required for admission if you have less than 32 college credits completed at the time of application. 
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for students whose English is not their first language.  Students who have completed three years full-time at an English-degree-granting institution are not required to submit TOEFL scores.   • Please note we do not require the TEAS exam as part of our application.

Applications to the Bachelor of Science at NYU Meyers consider the strengths of the applicant’s academic history and performance, letter(s) of recommendation, work or volunteer experience in the health care field, full-length essay, and personal statements.

Interviews are not a part of the admissions process for applicants to NYU Meyers's baccalaureate program. Due to the volume of applications received, college of nursing staff and faculty are not able to meet individually with potential applicants to answer questions about the program. Applicants are encouraged to attend an info session to learn about the admissions process. Information about info sessions can be found at https://nursing.nyu.edu/admissions/info-sessions.

Applicants may be considered in exceptional cases on the basis of the General Educational Development (GED) test. The SAT Reasoning Test of the College Entrance Examination Board or an NYU-administered examination may be required. There are no prerequisite courses required for admission to the college's Bachelor of Science program unless you wish to apply for direct admission into the 15-month accelerated BS program. Transfer applicants should have a minimum of one year of college course work or 30 college credits at the time their application for admission is submitted. Applicants with less than 30 credits may apply to NYU; these applicants will be considered based on college and high school academic performance.

NYU Meyers does not offer preadmission transcript evaluations.

Courses considered for transfer to the baccalaureate nursing program must be from an accredited college or university and have a grade of C or better if they are a science or liberal arts courses. Science courses must satisfy the college’s science requirements. Liberal arts courses must satisfy the university's liberal arts requirements.

A grade of B- or higher is required to receive credit for nursing courses taken at another baccalaureate program or school. Students with nursing courses must provide a copy of the course syllabi upon notification of admission. Transfer credit for nursing courses completed at an outside school of nursing is not guaranteed.

Registered nurses who have a bachelor’s degree in another field are eligible to apply to the master’s program.

Applicants with courses completed more than ten years ago are eligible for admission. However, NYU Meyers does not accept science courses (including Nutrition) that are more than ten years old.

The college offers a BS-to-PhD pathway that allows students to apply to the PhD program at the time of application to the BS/MS Dual Degree program.

Nursing students may take advantage of nursing externship programs offered at most hospitals and medical centers throughout the United States. Internships and externships are not required for successful passing of NCLEX or securing a position following graduation. NYU Meyers's Office of Student Affairs and Admissions maintains a listing of student nurse externship programs.
