What is a Nursing Cohort Leader?
Recall your first semester at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Do you remember how you felt about starting your college education? Eventually, you began to feel more adjusted to your “new home” and perhaps less anxious about the journey ahead.
To better assist NYU Meyers first-year students with their educational journeys ahead, the Office of Advising & Academic Services has created a Nursing Cohort Program to foster a supportive community for first-year students. Two key components of the program are the Nursing Cohort Seminar and Nursing Cohort Leaders. The cohort seminar aims to provide first-year students with important information that will enable a successful academic, personal and social transition to NYU Meyers and NYU. Sophomore Nursing Cohort Leaders will assist academic advisors in seminar preparation, facilitating class discussions, serving as a support resource to students, and cultivating an engaging NYU Meyers community. The seminar meets biweekly (every other week) in the fall for all incoming first-year students. In addition, Nursing Cohort Leaders will organize and lead at least four student outings with their cohort during the fall term. In the spring, Nursing Cohort Leaders will continue to foster community engagement with their cohort in more informal settings periodically throughout the term.
This is a tremendous opportunity to gain leadership, teaching, and communication skills and to mentor first-year students!
Position Responsibilities
- Assist in syllabus and cohort event planning
- Promote a cohesive community among your first-year cohort
- Lead first-year students on outings within the campus and New York City
- Serve as a support resource for students
- Refer students to the appropriate student campus resources
- Facilitate in-class discussions
- Maintain confidentiality of students
- Represent the university in a professional manner
- Attend all cohort seminar sessions and seminar prep sessions
- Participate in all mandatory nursing college leader training in the spring & summer
Requirements for Eligibility to Apply
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Current first-year student
Compensation
Nursing Cohort Leaders will be compensated with a $1,500 stipend per year.
