Baomi Phung's additional information

Baomi Phung, RN, BSN, PHN  graduated with her baccalaureate degree from St. Catherine University located in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2019. Throughout her undergraduate career, Baomi worked as a nursing research assistant to Dr. Kathleen Bell’s qualitative study, “Understanding the Issues Young Men Face in Becoming Fathers.” The study centered on interviewing fathers with past incarceration or former gang involvement about needed resources and support when becoming new fathers. The work was disseminated through local and international conferences including the Interprofessional Education 2019 Summit for Health, Sigma Theta Tau’s 31st International Congress, and the 16th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences.

In addition to being part of Dr. Bell’s research, Baomi’s experience as a bedside nurse in pediatrics and labor and delivery has fueled her desire to continue to learn, refine, and further conduct research to assist marginalized, underserved parents and improve their health outcomes. Baomi’s research interests are focused on identifying resources and support for mothers of color and their partners before, during, and after birth as they can set the foundation for building and maintaining strong, healthy families. With the knowledge, skills, mentorship, and resources NYU has to offer, Baomi is excited to learn and work alongside transformative leaders to continue to create sustainable, systemic change.
