Gladys Vallespir Ellet

Gladys Vallespir Ellett is a PhD candidate at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. She is a proud first generation college student, earning a BA in Theater and Spanish from Fordham University and an MA in Higher Education from The American University.  After holding several positions in Student Affairs, she began her nursing career in 1999 after graduating from Crouse Hospital School of Nursing and working at Community General Hospital in Syracuse. She earned a BS in Nursing from NYU Steinhardt in 2004 and throughout her nursing career she has worked to improve expectant and new families' experiences of parenting. She has over 16+ years of clinical experience at NYU Langone Health in Women and Children’s services and has served in several positions including direct patient care, and nursing management. She currently serves as the Nurse Coordinator for Lactation Services.  She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. As a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, Lamaze International, and the United States Lactation Consultants she has presented at national and regional conferences on topics that focus on promoting healthier outcomes for new families. She was a 2016-2017 Barbara Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Scholar and is a current member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. The focus of her dissertation is on men’s lived experience of first-time fatherhood during their partner’s pregnancy.
