Maile Mercer is a certified critical care nurse who has worked at NewYork-Presbyterian primarily as an ICU nurse and in nursing leadership. Additionally, Maile has served as part of the clinical leadership team and as a clinical nurse at Planned Parenthood of New York City. After
graduating from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Political Science, Maile started her career as a Legislative Aide to a United States Congressman. After nearly five years on Capitol Hill, Maile attended Georgetown University where she earned her BSN. Maile also holds an MSN in Health Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She was part of a nursing research fellowship program at NewYork-Presbyterian, where she completed a project on caregiver support in the Surgical/Trauma ICU in collaboration with Pastoral Care Services. With her experience on Capitol Hill and an MSN in Health Leadership, Maile brings an interdisciplinary, policy-informed approach to nursing and nursing research. As a PhD candidate, her primary research interests are burnout prevention, secondary-trauma exposure, and resilience training in nurses and student nurses. Maile is a third generation nurse, yoga enthusiast, and Reiki Master She lives with her husband and their dog in Brooklyn.
