Natalie Hellmers is a part-time PhD student in the Florence S. Downs PhD Program in Nursing Research and Theory at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing since 2017. She has a BS in Nursing from the University of Scranton. She has over a decade of medical-surgical and critical care bedside experience and in 2011 she became an alumnus of NYU Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program at NYU.
During the NYU Substance Abuse Research Education and Training (SARET) program she experienced her first opportunity as a nurse scientist. This inspired her interest in research and paved the way for a leadership role in the Nursing Research and Practice Council and eventually, she transitioned to a clinician role as Nurse Practitioner in Movement Disorders at Weill Cornell Medicine where she is also a co-investigator on multiple clinical trials. Her research interests include how patients learn about and manage chronic illness and work-life balance of caregivers for those with chronic neurological conditions.
