Chief nursing officers make complex decisions on a daily basis about how best to assure high-quality patient care, improve the patient’s experience and create and foster a safe and healthy workplace. As organizational executives, CNOs have a central role in guaranteeing that the mission of the organization is lived out at the point of care and that resources are utilized in ways that promote the organization’s fiscal health. In addition, the CNO is expected to be well-versed in both local and national healthcare issues, policies and regulations and be an active participant in strategically shaping the future of their respective healthcare institutions.
