Intensive care unit (ICU) admissions place a substantial cost on the healthcare system, with over 5 million complex cases annually. To optimize survival rates for ICU patients, interprofessional care teams, comprising nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists, must collaborate effectively in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care; however, existing research has been limited in examining how the collective characteristics of these teams influence patient outcomes. Our innovative, patient-centered approach, which focuses on evaluating the impact of interprofessional ICU team characteristics on patient outcomes, offers a promising avenue for improving care and outcomes for some of the most critically ill and vulnerable patients.
