Severe maternal morbidity (SMM) affects approximately 2,800 mothers each year in New York City. Nurses play an integral role in patient’s entire care delivery; including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and the transition back into their respective communities. This is what inspired Veronica to pursue a PhD; to strengthen her resolve in advocacy and disseminate new information during a time where the most vulnerable population, the immediate postpartum family, needs it the most. She received a Bachelors of Science (Nursing) from CUNY Hunter College and an Executive Masters in Public Administration from New York University. Over the course of her rewarding career, Veronica has been awarded great fortune as a Chapter Leader, Public Policy Committee member, and Evidence Based Practice scholar with AWHONN. Although, the most rewarding was being featured with CNBC on a "Day in the Life" of a Registered Nurse to shed light on all the avenues a nurse can take with their career. In her "free time", she trains as a competitive powerlifter with her heaviest deadlift being 350 pounds.
