Hillary J. Dutton, MS, MPH, RN, is a doctoral student in the Florence S. Downs PhD Program in Nursing Research and Theory Development at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her program of research focuses on health care services for sexual and gender minority communities and on the health workforce, with a multi-method dissertation exploring primary care provider practice for transgender and gender diverse adults. She is a trainee in the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-funded T42 Occupational and Environmental Health training program at NYU Meyers.

Prior to beginning her PhD at NYU Meyers, Dutton spent 12 years working at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital. She began her career in 2013 as a clinical nurse on an orthopedic medical- surgical unit before transitioning to a clinical educator role in 2017 and then to a Nursing Professional Development Specialist position. As a Nursing Professional Development Specialist, she served as the Nurse Residency Program Coordinator for NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, responsible for the implementation of the hospital’s transition to practice program for new graduate nurses. She continued in that role in a per diem capacity during her doctoral studies before leaving the position in June 2025.
