Junyi Lin is a second-year PhD student at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN) in 2021 from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 2024 from Capital Medical University, in Beijing. Junyi’s research passion lies in palliative and hospice care, with a specific focus on culturally sensitive approaches to support patients and family caregivers with life-limiting illnesses. During her graduate studies, she actively contributed to research projects that developed and tested a psychological intervention Family-Based Dignity Therapy, and developed a novel palliative care model based on dignity with Chinese cultural characteristics. Junyi is particularly interested in mixed-methods and qualitative research design. She has conducted qualitative interviews with diverse populations, including advanced cancer patients, family caregivers, and palliative care providers and used content analysis and thematic analysis to derive insights. For her master’s thesis, she completed a grounded theory study exploring the death value in palliative care within the Chinese cultural context.
Junyi has published several first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals such as the European Journal of Oncology Nursing, Palliative & Supportive Care, and the European Journal of Cancer Care. She has presented her research at international and regional conferences, such as the 23rd International PsychoOncology Society (IPOS) 2022 World Congress, the 2022 World Cancer Congress and NYU Meyers Research Day. She also contributed as an editor to the chapter Dignity Therapy in the CACA Technical Guidelines for Holistic Integrative Management of Cancer in China.
Currently, Junyi is focusing on exploring palliative care and self-management for Chinese American patients with life-limiting illnesses and their family caregivers. In 2025, she received Eisner Foundation Award to support her work on Intergenerational Support in Cancer Self- and Family Management among Chinese Immigrant Communities . Though her doctoral training at NYU Meyers, Junyi is committed to advancing culturally inclusive self-management science in palliative care and enhance health equity for immigrant populations.
